By Air: The closest airport to Santa Cruz is  San Jose International Airport (SJC) which is about a 45 minute drive away. Both San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Oaklad International Airport (OAK) are also reasonably close at about a 1.5 hour drive away.

There are numerous options to get to Santa Cruz. From San Francisco or Oakland airports, it is easiest to rent a car and drive. The driving directions are:

From San Jose: Take Highway 880 South. Continue on Highway 17 South to Santa Cruz. At the outskirts of Santa Cruz, continue onto Highway 1 North toward CA-9/Half Moon Bay/Boulder Creek. Take a slight right onto Mission Street. Turn left on Bay St. Turn left on West Cliff and arrive at the Dream Inn. 

From San Francisco: Take Highway 101 South or Interstate 280 South to Highway 85 South. From 85, merge onto 17 South to Santa Cruz. At the outskirts of Santa Cruz, continue onto Highway 1 North toward CA-9/Half Moon Bay/Boulder Creek. Take a slight right onto Mission Street. Turn left on Bay St. Turn left on West Cliff and arrive at the Dream Inn.

 

From Oakland: Take Highway 880 South. After San Jose, continue on 17 South to Santa Cruz. At the outskirts of Santa Cruz, continue onto Highway 1 North toward CA-9/Half Moon Bay/Boulder Creek. Take a slight right onto Mission Street. Turn left on Bay St. Turn left on West Cliff and arrive at the Dream Inn.

Public transit options are much more difficult and are available at http://taps.ucsc.edu/airports.html. Instead of traveling to campus from the Santa Cruz Metro station, however, you should take the 19 or 20 buses which will go by the Dream Inn.
